eSolution company "March::Engenus" has recently completed its development of the "Pulse" system for AXA PPP healthcare's Occupational Health (OH) business which is part of PPP Healthcare.

Pulse is key to the running of the OH business dealing with the sorting of initial enquiries, wherever they come from, and sorting them into "workflow" queues so that they can be progressed and managed in an efficient way. This includes the handling of the financial aspects of the OH business in addition to full case management of complex processes like pre-employment health questions and management referrals associated with sickness and absence.

Pulse manages all aspects of the OH business and its implementation was built on the significant business experience of the OH team married with the high technical skills of March::Engenus to deliver an outstanding system which will lead to significant efficiency improvements within the OH business.

March::Engenus were awarded the contract because they have a sound track record of delivering complex solutions and have solid project management processes which ensure that projects are delivered to the exacting standards required by AXA PPP.

The project was managed by experienced project managers in both AXA PPP and March::Engenus and this has ensured that the project met the demanding timescales required by the OH business management team.

"I was particularly concerned that the project should not slip and this was a key constraint from the start. We wanted the productivity gains that Pulse will offer and also to provide our customers with better levels of service - better than our competitors can provide. We feel that March::Engenus rose to this challenge" said Mark Simpson, Managing Director of the Occupational Health Service.

The system developed by March::Engenus uses the latest "internet aware" technologies including Microsoft's .NET architecture and open standards like those provided by the extended mark-up language (XML).

"It gives AXA PPP OHS a platform to provide enhanced customer services and permits much better communication between the client and OHS than would be possible with other technologies. I believe this is of significant competitive advantage to Axa's OH business" added Paul Smith, March::Engenus' Managing Director.

The Pulse system supports the cultural changes planned within the OH business and the implementation of Pulse started these cultural changes. "We have implemented professional project management and change management processes and have been supported by Axa's PPP Healthcare business in introducing these. Whilst some education of OH staff has been necessary during the introduction of these processes there has been a real willingness to embrace the changes" said Georgina Bryant, March::Engenus' project manager.

Pulse is a significant system for AXA's occupational health business and one fit for the 21st century and a good platform on which to build the new products and capabilities demanded by OH customers.
