John Mackie, Chief Executive of the British Venture Capital Association (BVCA) in an exclusive interview with Company Partners said that he believes there is a perception gap between funders and those seeking funds.

“People talk about there being an equity gap and I think rather more accurately that there is a finance gap – it’s not always equity”. Mackie went on to say that many small businesses want to retain full ownership, whereas taking on funds from venture capital firms would require the giving up of part of the business.

Over the course of the next few articles, Company Partners will explore with John Mackie:

- How you will know if you are right for venture capital funding.

- Where else you can seek funding.

- John Mackie’s tips for gaining venture capital.

- The investment cycle for growing companies.
