Ground breaking online licensing tool recognized at prestigious Channel Awards event

Chessington, November 21: Ideal won an Editor’s Choice award at this week’s Channel Awards ceremony for its highly innovative Licence Desk on the Internet (LDi) online software licensing tool.

The Award, given at a glittering event in London’s Battersea Park, recognizes the market leading status of LDi, launched last year by Ideal to help simplify the nightmare of corporate software licensing for resellers and their corporate customers.

“It’s fantastic that the hard work that went into developing LDi and making it a success has been recognized,” says Alex Tatham, VP Global Software Distribution, Bell Microproducts, parent company of Ideal. He continued “There really is no other online tool out there like it, and we’re delighted to be setting the pace in this important area. How software is paid for is top of the agenda in data centres and boardrooms up and down the country, outdoing e-commerce, network security and worries about the adoption of new technology as the major IT headache of the day. What concerns enterprises everywhere is not simply the price of software, it’s the aggravation and spiralling cost of managing its deployment.”

Tatham says that resellers commonly find that end-users genuinely do not know what software they are running or where they are running it, let alone what each vendor’s licensing scheme means and how their software is priced, and argues that this is a chance for resellers to add some real value to their customers.

Ideal invested heavily in the development of LDi, making it uniquely able to cope with multiple vendors' schemes and automatically calculate the most cost effective pricing for the end user. This helps resellers overcome the challenges faced in managing the variety of different software licence products purchased by their end user customer and enables resellers lacking the necessary skills and resources to move into software licence sales.

At its launch, LDi was the world's first online licensing tool to embrace Microsoft's .net technology. This enables resellers to deliver software compliance to the end user faster than ever before. The tool also has the capabilities for future XML transactions and future E licensing.
