Powerware announces the availability of the Environmental Monitoring Probe (EMP) for the ConnectUPS Web/SNMP adapters. The EMP provides sensors for temperature and humidity measurements as well as two inputs for two additional contact devices, such as smoke alarm, open door sensor, generator alarm, leakage or flood detector and many more. A Powerware ConnectUPS Web/SNMP card equipped with the EMP can monitor physical threats to sensitive electrical equipment.
The EMP can measure temperatures between 0 and 80 degrees C with an accuracy of 1 degree and relative humidity between 10 and 90 percent. User can set thresholds for these measurements as well as actions to be taken if the values go out of bounds or the contact inputs are activated. Settings are accessible via the web.
The notification methods are the same as for other ConnectUPS Web alarms, namely SNMP traps and email which can be redirected to mobile phones or pagers. Alarms are also logged to ConnectUPS Web adapter log. It is also possible to configure EMP alarms to trigger automatic graceful shutdown of computer operating systems to avoid loss of data due to overtemperature, or to facilitate quick emergency shutdown of a server room.
Installation of the EMP is easy. One cable is connected between the probe and the serial port on the adapter. The adapter automatically recognises the EMP and modifies its interface accordingly.
“Powerware continues to provide tools and devices to build complete solutions. This device will enable users to take full advantage of their power protection investment,” said Jorma Mannerkoski, product marketing director at Powerware EMEA.
The EMP provides the IT or facilities manager with an additional layer of insurance for total system health. For more information on this and other Powerware solutions visit www.emea.powerware.com.
