Culham Innovation Centre, UK (28th November 2003) - Kaspersky Labs, an international data security developer has opened a new European Computer Virus Research Centre in Paris. Headed by leading computer virus expert Marc Blanchard, the new centre will be involved in real-time monitoring of the virus situation in Europe, and technology research together with the Kaspersky Labs Global Virus Research Centre based in Moscow, Russia.

With Europe accounting for over 30% of Kaspersky Labs worldwide sales providing even faster updates to its customers is a key objective. Core to this strategy is Kaspersky’s research into emerging threats, enabling them to respond quickly even when a new method of propagation or attack is used by virus writers. It is this dedication to its customers that has influenced many leading security vendors such as Nokia and BorderWare Technologies to apply the Kaspersky Anti-Virus kernel as a primary anti-virus in their email security appliances.

BlackSpider Technologies, a managed services provider of e-mail security that incorporates Kaspersky Anti-Virus as well as other world-leading anti-virus products into its compound solution is very positive about the response times that Kaspersky Labs provides as John Cheney, Managing Director of BlackSpider Technologies explains, “The speed with which Kaspersky is able to provide us with updates for new viruses has always been impressive. The new facility in Paris will be a welcome addition in supplementing the excellent work that we already receive from the Moscow virus labs.”

Marc Blanchard is one of the most respected virus experts worldwide. His professional career as an IT threat analyst began in 1986, when he created his own technology against malicious programs. He has published a series of articles and researches many of which are used for training virus analysts today. Under Marc’s guidance the focus of the European Computer Virus Research Centre will be on improving even further the response time to new viruses and providing European customers with proactive information and high-end technical support. This will result in a more effective and faster neutralisation of threats, both on a global and local level.

“Kaspersky Labs’ experts and I all began our struggle against IT threats at about the same time. I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with people, whom I have long respected for truly revolutionary innovations in the battle against virus writers,” noted Marc Blanchard, newly-appointed Head of Kaspersky Labs European Virus Research Centre. “I am sure that our work together will be fruitful and that our clients will benefit from our joint expertise."
