Four Models Provide SSL, SSH, 128-bit Encryption, and Other Industry-leading Security Features

London, UK (December 9, 2003) – Expanding its award-winning Dominion™ product line for secure remote management of servers and other IT equipment, Raritan Computer today introduced the Dominion SX -- a Web-based serial console server. The Dominion SX enables IT professionals to conveniently and securely monitor, troubleshoot, configure and manage all serial equipment in the enterprise -- using a LAN, WAN or Internet connection -- from anywhere, anytime.

The Dominion SX’s remote management features enable companies to solve and prevent IT problems faster and easier, maximizing operations uptime. By managing remote equipment from a corporation’s main office, or from wherever IT experts are located, companies also can dramatically save on other IT costs, such as travel and staffing expenses.

In addition to providing a consolidated view of serial equipment in the enterprise, the Dominion SX provides multiple users, via a Web browser, simultaneous secure remote access to all connected devices, including servers running Solaris, Linux, Unix and Windows 2003 Server; routers; hubs; switches; modems; PBXs; and other equipment that use RS232 (serial or asynchronous) port connections. A single IP address and any Java-enabled Web browser gives access, with VT100 terminal emulation, to all connected devices. Using the Dominion SX’s integrated power controller, IT professionals can monitor the power status of any attached equipment -- as well as cycle the power and reboot.

“Serial equipment in the data centre continues to grow -- one third of all servers that will ship next year will use serial ports for access and control,” said Naim Malik, Product Manager at Raritan Computer. “The addition of the Dominion SX to Raritan’s product line provides companies with a secure, flexible and cost-effective solution to manage serial equipment in data centres and throughout the enterprise, while driving down systems management costs.”

Like Raritan’s other Dominion products, the Dominion SX provides an added advantage of remote emergency access, via a modem, to the Dominion console server and the systems that are attached. The Dominion SX also provides advanced TCL scripting capabilities for creating customer-specific notifications and alerts scripts, such as an alert for low-disk space.

Security features – such as SSL, SSH, fully-authenticated 128-bit encryption, and code-signing certificates -- enable IT managers to remotely manage an enterprise’s IT equipment with greater control and safety, as well as preventing local serial access.

The Dominion SX -- which leverages the serial-control technologies from Raritan’s acquisition of Arula Systems Inc., an HP spin-off -- is an integrated, plug-and-play box that is easy to use and set up. Designed to preserve IT investment, the Dominion SX -- which is available in four models -- can scale up to 32 ports and 320 users. With Raritan’s CommandCenter™ centralized enterprise control solution, multiple SXs, as well as other Raritan products, can be aggregated for one enterprise view.

Pricing and Availability

The Dominion SX provides many advanced features at a competitive price. The 16- and 32-port models, which have an integrated modem, are available worldwide starting today through Raritan’s extensive reseller channel and distributors, and have a retail price of ,145 and ,749, respectively. The 4- and 8-port models are modem ready and will be available starting January 2004.
