London/Cairo December 10th, 2003: Intec Telecom Systems, a worldwide Operations Support Systems (OSS) vendor for fixed, mobile and IP/ next generation networks, and Giza Systems, a leading systems integrator in the Middle East, today announced they have signed a contract extension for Intec’s Inter-mediatE™ solution with Telecom Egypt, the country's PTT and largest telecommunications service provider. Under the terms of the new agreement Telecom Egypt will extend the use of Inter-mediatE to provide nationwide mediation communications support for its operations by supplying the usage data for all the company's billing systems.

“Inter-mediatE has proven that it has the product maturity to manage Telecom Egypt’s national business requirements," explains Shehab Nawawi, CEO of Giza Systems. "Since 2002 Telecom Egypt has been using this solution with excellent results, delivering consistent, high quality mediation support for the company’s Cairo operation. The new contract will enable Telecom Egypt to extend this capability across the country, offering mediation support for local and remote call traffic from fixed, wireless and ISP networks.”

Inter-mediatE, a future-proof, carrier-grade convergent mediation solution, provides a platform that can track, measure and charge for the use of Telecom Egypt's entire network. This is performed by gathering raw data from switches, routers and servers and transforming it into comprehensive information used by billing and other downstream systems.

“Intec is very pleased to have secured another business agreement with Telecom Egypt, one of the true pioneers in telecoms technology in the Middle East,” says Intec’s CEO Kevin Adams. “As the company develops its network with new services, Intec’s support team will extend the mediation system to reflect the changes, ensuring that Telecom Egypt is able to provide high levels of customer service and while quickly and accurately charging for all network traffic.”

Telecom Egypt's network spans over 400 host switches, from different vendors, covering 6 regions and 26 governates. The company provides services to 8.5 million subscribers with a capacity for 11 million in total, representing 12.5 percent of Egypt’s population.

Telecom Egypt, formerly known as Arento, was established in 1918 as the Egyptian Telegraph and telephone administration. Today it is the incumbent Telecom Operator of telecommunications in Egypt, providing the infrastructure for the 60 existing Internet Service Providers in 18 regions within Egypt.
