Flexible solution provides enhancements 50% quicker than its competitors

Bracknell, UK (7th January 2004) – Magic Software Enterprises UK today announced that Magic Solutions Partner Eclipse Learner Systems Limited (ELSL) has secured contracts valued at over £500,000 to supply a number of FE and SFC Colleges with Eclipse, a comprehensive, fully integrated Learner Management and Administration system developed using Magic eDeveloper.

Established in 2001, Eclipse Learner Systems Limited (ELSL) is already the fastest growing provider of learner management and administration software in the UK, with an impressive list of FE and Sixth Form colleges as its clients including Lewisham College (Beacon College), Southwark College, Rotherham College of Arts & Technology, Oldham Sixth Form College and Woodhouse Sixth Form College (Beacon College).

Built in recognition of the significant changes within the educational system and the new need for Plan-Led Funding, Eclipse provides a comprehensive solution to manage the processes. One of the reasons for its success, besides ELSL’s obvious attributes of in-depth knowledge of the educational marketplace combined with a vast experience of commercial system design, is the underlying Magic technology that has been used in building its flagship product, Eclipse.

Eclipse is built using Magic Software Enterprises’ core technology, eDeveloper, which uses a revolutionary programming paradigm that eliminates wasted time and repetition from the development cycle. This enables ELSL to develop and deliver to its clients additional functionality and customisation far quicker than using other development tools.

Steve Sanders, Managing Director of ELSL comments, “Nothing stands still for very long in education and this means that we have to be able to enhance or add functionality to Eclipse constantly throughout the year. Magic allows us to react to these requests with a speed that sometimes surprises us, let alone our customers. On average we are convinced that we can offer these enhancements to Eclipse 50 % faster using Magic than any of its competitors.”

ELSL has currently completed a new XML interface that will enable colleges to automatically exchange information about Connexions Card users with the Government, to ensure students are accredited with the correct information. Connexions Card is a smart card reward scheme available free to students to encourage them to stay in further education.

For colleges to take advantage of the electronic transfer of information between themselves and the Government, the data and the transfer must conform to a certain set of rules set out by the Department of Education. Magic’s flexibility and ability to work in a heterogeneous environment will allow this functionality to be available within Eclipse quickly and easily.

“Magic and ELSL have worked together closely over the last two years and it’s great to see the company doing so well in the educational marketplace. The flexibility, speed and ease of integration of eDeveloper, combined with the detailed control over the look and feel of the application’s interface has made Eclipse a real winner,” says Andy Peart, Head of Marketing, Magic Software Enterprises UK.

Today, Eclipse is fully integrated Learner Management and Administration system that targets the specific, individual needs of the Further Education and Sixth form colleges. With an explorer type menu, utilising standard button technology for selection and navigation around the various screens, Eclipse is easy to use, intuitive and highly user–friendly.
