PortWise mVPN dominates four test categories in Test of Top SSL VPN Vendors
PortWise, Europe’s leading SSL VPN vendor today announced that its PortWise mVPN product had dominated four categories – price, session rate, forwarding rate and Outlook Web Access (OWA) concurrent users – in the industry’s most comprehensive SSL VPN test to date. Although the test chose not to pick an overall winner, it acknowledged the PortWise product as a value leader in the market segment.
The test, commissioned by Light Reading, the premier information resource for news and analysis of next-generation telecommunications technology, set out to identify key standards for performance, scalability, and security of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology. Products from eight leading vendors in the SSL VPN marketplace were separated into two categories: server-based and appliance-based solutions. As software based solution, PortWise mVPN fell into the former category.
Among server-based entrants, PortWise’s mVPN posted by far the highest session rates, handling 155 sessions per second, and its gateway ran considerably faster than its competition – moving traffic at 310 Mbit/s both with and without compression enabled. In the concurrent users section of the test, PortWise gateway dwarfed its competitors by approximately two orders of magnitude, sustaining requests from more than 20,000 users both with compression enabled and disabled; the next closest gateway sustained a maximum load of 290 users without errors.
“Our SSL VPN solution was designed to enable enterprises to deploy a cost effective remote access solution for partners, employees and customers that delivers full and secure access to web-enabled applications and traditional corporate systems via multiple channels and devices,” said Kaushik Thakkar, Co-Founder and Vice President Strategic Development for PortWise. “To this end, we believe that this test has validated several of our key strengths and has illustrated our leadership in this market.”
"This independent test has revealed the extensive capabilities of PortWise’s SSL VPN technology," said Tomas Ericsson, Chief Technology Officer, PortWise. " The concurrent user and session rates illustrate the power of our solution, while the overall findings show PortWise to be the cost effective and scaleable choice for any enterprise interested in high performance, completely secure remote access.”
The PortWise product suite, shipped as both software and security appliance, is widely recognised as the leading offering in terms of its ability to address the issues facing the next generation of SSL VPNs – scalability and policy management. The company was recently cited as a visionary vendor in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant on the SSL VPN market as a result of its innovative solutions such as using mobile phones in the authentication process. PortWise is also responsible for the largest SSL VPN implementations in the world.
