TRIM Context chosen as backbone of case tracking system

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has chosen Tower Software’s TRIM Context solution to manage its electronic documents and record system. The system is designed to ensure optimum public services by managing case file enclosures such as Word applications, email, images, CCTV footage, sound and could eventually support up to 300 users.

For IPCC, TRIM Context will provide an integrated document management system. Supplied by Anite Group plc, the software will form part of an efficient case tracking system that will monitor the progress of all complaints registered through IPCC. For heightened security the system will include audit trails of previous cases and secure back-up documentation. It will also be compatible with current applications and enhance a more customer-focused and streamlined service.

“The ability of TRIM Context is a big advantage,” said John Alden, IPCC interim IT Director. “By providing the right service our investigation teams will be able to process their workloads more efficiently. This will be of benefit to both complainants and those serving in the police force.”

Tony Sumpster, Managing Director, EMEA at TOWER Software added, “The fact that the IPCC has specified and installed such leading-edge systems and processes speaks volumes about its positive attitude to serving the public. They will be very well equipped to meet their own exacting standards.”

About IPCC

The Independent Police Complaints Commission, established under the Police Reform Act, will replace the Police Complaints Authority on 1 April 2004. The new organisation will be given a wide range of powers, over and above those currently available to the PCA.

The IPCC will have its own body of investigators with all the necessary powers to be able to effectively investigate serious matters of police misconduct completely separate from the police, whether or not a complaint has been made. It will also set and enforce standards of complaint handling in police forces across England and Wales.

Complainants will be given new rights of appeal to the IPCC against police decisions on the handling of their complaint and new rights to information. Detailed information about the IPCC can be found on the web site www.ipcc.gov.uk.
