With this week set to be make or break for Tony Blair, Hitwise reports that interest in Lifestyle – Politics websites has spiked as UK Internet users look to keep up with all the developments.


Hitwise data reveals that traffic to both the Labour Party (www.labour.org.uk) and Hutton Inquiry (www.the-hutton-inquiry.org.uk) websites has increased significantly in recent days, ahead of tonight’s vote on the crucial Higher Education Bill and tomorrow’s publication of Lord Hutton’s long awaited report into the death of weapons expert Dr David Kelly.


www.labour.org.uk was the 6th most visited political website yesterday, doubling its visits in just two days. Although the percentage of visitors book marking Labour’s website increased to one in every 20 visitors in the past few days, the bad news for the Prime Minister is that in December, more than one in 25 visitors went straight to The Conservative Party’s website (www.conservatives.com) when they left.


Meanwhile, the Hutton Inquiry website increased its share of the Hitwise Lifestyle – Politics category by more than 700% since January 19th, and on Sunday the site held visitors’ attention for longer than any other Political site, with visitors remaining for an average of just over 11 minutes. The number of visitors book marking www.the-hutton-inquiry.org.uk has almost doubled in the last 48 hours, with one in every 8 visitors book marking the website yesterday. Lord Hutton will deliver a statement at 12:30pm tomorrow, with the full findings published on the Hutton Inquiry website an hour later.
