POST CTI, a Value Added Distributor of standards-based communications products, announces today the UK availability of the Intel Netstructure SS7HDP computer telephony board for the Linux operating system. The product is targeted at ISVs, System Integrators, Equipment Manufacturers, xSPs and public network operators.

The board, the first of Intel’s new SS7 high density product range, is designed to give significantly improved cost/ performance for carriers operating converged mobile/ fixed line networks. To date, carrier-grade PCI computer telephony boards have typically struggled to cope with the high bandwidth requirements of data hungry wireless applications such as SMS because they’ve only provided a limited number of SS7 links per board. This has meant carriers can easily run out of bandwidth before running out of performance on their boards, resulting in poor service quality.

The Intel Netstructure SS7HDP board directly addresses this issue, providing 1600% more performance than existing Intel PCI products - at only twice the cost. Using Intel® XScale® technology, each board supports up to 64 SS7 links and can process over 20,000 Message Signaling Units per second. This makes the board ideal for public network operators looking to build and deploy SS7 applications such as SMS, televoting, IN, billing and call control (beyond ISDN).

The new boards support the same common Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) as all other Intel SS7 Netstructure products - making migration from existing Intel PCI computer telephony products to the new high density board extremely easy.

The Intel Netstructure SS7HDP hardware costs US$11,025. Additional software costs depend on customer requirements: software for operating up to 16 links on the board, for example, costs US$7050; software supporting up to 64 links costs $12,750.
