New SMS Solution Provides Faster Text Messaging To Support SMS Traffic Growth With Reduced CAPEX

WOODBURY, NY, February 19, 2004 – Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMVT), and the world’s leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communications services, today announced the release of ISMS Accelerate, a new solution designed to handle SMS text messages more efficiently on GSM, GPRS, CDMA and TDMA networks. Comverse ISMS Accelerate provides significant network load reductions through enabling: faster direct forwarding of incoming SMS messages to subscribers and applications; sophisticated management of messaging spikes due to popular applications; the efficient transfer of undelivered messages; and advanced Quality of Service, including the ability to handle prepaid SMS subscriber messages.

ISMS Accelerate is designed to reduce carriers’ CAPEX by minimizing the need for additional Short Message Service Centers (SMSCs) to manage increasing text message traffic, while providing a cost-effective method of handling/administering/addressing messaging spikes.

Carriers frequently have to manage messaging traffic spikes, when SMS messages are sent to TV-based voting applications. Comverse ISMS Accelerate either can intercept these SMS-TV messages and transfer them directly to the relevant application without storing them in the SMSC, or direct them to one or more SMSCs according to load share routing tables. This eliminates the need to reconfigure SMSCs to address a specific application.

ISMS Accelerate also can take direct delivery of messages generated by carrier or third-party applications where rapid delivery of services is essential (such as for the transmission of sports scores, stock prices and lottery-prize announcements), and push them simultaneously to a large number of subscribers without having to store them in an SMSC.

“The growth in SMS messaging, together with the increased coverage of SMS services, means that many more person-to-person and application-to-person SMS messages can be delivered using Accelerate’s First Delivery Attempt (FDA) capability without having to be saved prior to delivery in an SMSC,” commented Eitan Achlow, Vice President and SMS Business Unit General Manager at Comverse. “ISMS Accelerate provides a complete FDA service that enables existing carrier infrastructure to handle more messages in different formats within a comprehensive state-of-the-art management and statistics suite with connectivity to all existing and emerging mobile and IP network protocols.”
