• elata adds digital rights management module to senses v4.0 content and service delivery software system

• elata senses v4.0 also enhanced with content lifecycle management and customer care functionality

3GSM World Congress 2003, Cannes France: 23 February 2004: - elata, Europe’s leading content and service delivery software vendor, has enhanced the elata senses v4.0 subscriber management and service delivery software system with a range of new functional modules to manage digital rights management (DRM), the mobile content lifecycle and the customer care operation for downloadable content. The new DRM framework enables operators to protect the intellectual copyright of their content and safeguard crucial revenue streams.

The ARC Group estimate that mobile content services revenues are set to reach $126 billion worldwide by 2008 and account for almost 20% of mobile operator revenues. It is vital that mobile operators protect their digital content assets by applying digital rights management (DRM) rules. elata senses features a flexible, integrated DRM framework that supports current DRM standards, including Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) DRM 1.0, and can integrate with existing DRM systems if required.

Within the elata senses framework, mobile operators can apply DRM rules to restrict the usage of multiple content types by time, date, number of uses, preview only and also prevent the forwarding of content to other subscriber’s devices. By protecting content in this way, mobile operators can prevent content piracy and protect the loss of revenue.

elata senses also incorporates a content lifecycle manager tool that allows mobile operators to co-ordinate their downloadable content management plans. Content is submitted into elata senses where each item is given a unique status label. Different departments have responsibility for advancing the status of the content through the approval, testing and publishing process, ready for discovery on the subscriber’s device. This powerful feature allows multiple departments within the operator’s organisation to easily manage high volumes of frequently changing content and services in their service catalogue.

Additionally, elata senses now includes a sophisticated predictive discovery adaptor that analyses a subscriber’s previous content downloads and presents them with a selection of most popular, relevant content via the browser catalogue on their device or the operator’s web portal. Automatically prioritising content according to the subscriber’s interests and purchase patterns improves the user experience, encourages subscribers to buy more content and – vitally - increases the operator’s revenues.

As downloadable content becomes an increasingly important part of the subscriber experience, the need to provide a simple, compelling customer experience is essential. elata senses now features an advanced customer care module that provides customer care operators with up-to-the-minute subscriber information to deal with enquiries quickly and efficiently.

Through an elata senses management interface, customer care operators can reset passwords or PIN numbers, update the subscriber’s personal details, de-activate content downloads for lost or stolen handsets, manage the subscriber’s service catalogue and review all content downloads. This information enables the operator’s customer care team to automatically provide refunds for failed downloads directly from elata senses and easily resolve problems to help maintain customer satisfaction and reduce operating costs.

Matt Hooper, Vice President of Marketing and Alliances at elata said: “Successful deployments with customers such as the 3 Group, Amena, Optimus and Orange France have proved elata senses to be the industry’s leading content and service delivery software solution, providing operators with a comprehensive, feature-rich system to manage mobile content, subscriber data and increasingly complex devices. The enhancements to senses will help operators further protect their digital assets and ensure that their subscribers receive the best possible service, enabling senses' users to maximise existing system investments and drive revenues from the delivery of a vast portfolio of mobile content.”
