Newest Version of Essbase Fuels Comprehensive Analysis for Improved Performance

LONDON, UK, February 24, 2004—Hyperion (Nasdaq:HYSL), the leader in Business Performance Management software, today launched the latest version of its legendary Essbase software, version 7. Essbase 7 offers the market’s most advanced analytic environment for developers, along with more power, flexibility, performance and scalability for business analysts and other end users. Essbase 7, a key component in the new Hyperion BI Platform, debuts new capabilities designed to deliver information to a broad class of users accountable for business performance, including executives, operational managers, and front-line workers anywhere in the enterprise.

Precious metals and chemicals leader Johnson Matthey has used previous editions of Hyperion Essbase with great success. “Hyperion Essbase was originally selected because we needed a platform that required little or no IT maintenance, that integrated with existing systems in the various divisions, as well as being a product that would be around for the long haul,” said Tony Whitby, group systems development manager at Johnson Matthey.

“With Hyperion Essbase 7.0, we are impressed with the support for multiple servers, as well as the checking and validating of calculation scripts, and the new interface. In addition, we have noted improvements in performance, particularly with compression algorithms. Integrated security is another important new feature. Overall, we still view Hyperion Essbase 7.0 as the most scalable analytic platform available."

This new release of Hyperion Essbase provides tighter integration with marketing leading middleware infrastructure, such as IBM’s WebSphere software platform and IBM’s DB2 Universal Database and DB2 Cube Views.

“IBM is pleased that Hyperion is leveraging the power, flexibility and performance of the IBM middleware platform and DB2, said Karen Parrish, vice president, IBM Business Intelligence. “The integration of Essbase with IBM’s middleware platform will provide companies with the best overall time to value.”

“We’ve made significant advancements with this release that meet our customers’ need for powerful, scalable solutions that can be easily deployed across enterprises and globally,” said Rich Clayton, vice president of product marketing for Hyperion. “Essbase 7 lowers the total costs of ownership for analytics, while putting more power in the hands of power users. And it offers a powerful environment for developers, with flexible, open technology for creating the innovative applications that will fuel improved business performance.”

Putting More Power In The Hands Of Power Users

· Predictive analytics empowers users to not only evaluate the past, but also to model the future and predict business outcomes at the speed of thought

· A comprehensive set of interactive alerts and triggers flags issues in real time, alerting users to issues such as low-supply levels, increases in supply costs or spikes in demand

Lowering The Total Cost Of Ownership

· Hyperion is the first Business Performance Management vendor to offer end-to-end support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, giving customers a robust and reliable operating environment for dramatically lower total cost of ownership

· Hyperion proved it delivers more performance for less hardware investment (compared to currently available alternatives), with the publication of the APB OLAP benchmark speed and scalability record this past December. The benchmark performance, proved on Essbase 6.5, will be available on Essbase 7 later this year

Powerful Yet Flexible Development Environment Coupled With Easier Global Deployment

· Cross-platform support for Web Services via XMLA gives customers anywhere, anytime access to data via the Web, improved deployment capabilities, and easy integration of BI and Business Performance Management data with corporate portals and other Web applications

· Support for Unicode enables developers to build applications once and instantly deploy across any platform, any environment and for many languages

· The first Business Performance Management solution to offer support for MDX, a sophisticated query language that enables users to conduct more complex product mix and market basket analysis and more detailed customer analysis

"Hyperion continues to successfully evolve Essbase to meet the changing needs of its customers," said Mike Schiff of analyst firm Current Analysis, Inc. "Essbase is already recognized as a leading OLAP engine and the new capabilities can only serve to further enhance this well-deserved reputation and benefit organizations that choose to deploy it."
