Birmingham based IT company Probrand’s on line IT e-procurement solution, The IT Index, has been identified by research organisation Butler Group as having the potential to save IT buying departments in a wide range of organisations from SMEs through to large corporate companies significant amounts of time and money because it elliminates the need for IT buyers to call numerous suppliers to secure best price and availability on IT products.

The IT Index features more than 100,000 product items on-line in a secure hub environment and is believed to be the largest on-line IT procurement resource in Europe.

The findings highlighted in a recent Butler Group report also point out the potential for the solution to be rolled out to numerous vertical market sectors as a stand alone software procurement solution.

The findings come on the back of rapid growth for The IT Index which has gone from zero to more than £1.8M turnover in just two years and Probrand is predicting further sales growth this year.

The IT Index offers companies the convenience of having their own IT procurement hub that can be accessed by all of their branches and departments but totally controlled from a central point. This delivers greater financial control and business process efficiency by eliminating the need for buyers to conduct ring rounds when all they need is a simple consumable. This time efficient on-line procurement system reduces overheads to help businesses increase profits.

The fact that the IT Index is available free of charge to organisations with IT budgets of more than £50,000 per year is seen as a major product benefit by Butler Group.

As the report points out, ‘Buyers frequently have to phone a number of distributors in order to find where the required product is available, and to ascertain the cheapest price. This can be a time consuming task. The IT Index automates the procurement process leading to significant savings both in time and the amount paid for products. Any organisation with a significant IT budget would benefit from utilising this innovative procurement service.’

Butler Group recently conducted a detailed technical analysis of The IT Index. The research firm findings highlighted that The IT Index contains one of the largest on-line IT catalogues with more than 103,000 part references from nearly 400 manufacturers. Importantly the report highlighted that the aggregation and comparison software which is at the heart of the IT Index allows users to search for best price and availability on anything from a floppy disc to a business server.

As Ian Williamson, group marketing manager of Probrand highlights, “The IT Index offers two significant opportunities for Probrand. Firstly it will provide us with a very cost effective route to grow our sales. Secondly and more importantly the solution can be sold as a procurement package to other market sectors that are faced with the challenge of managing numerous suppliers offering large component catalogues to a large number of customers.

“In reality, The IT Index could be used by anyone from an automotive components distributor through to an office equipment reseller.

“What is most important is the fact that anyone buying the solution is buying into tried and tested technology. We have used The IT Index for close on two years to run our business and it has helped reduce costs and increase profitability,” Ian Williamson adds.
