Email archiving and content management software provider KVS, Inc. today released Enterprise Vault® version 5, the market’s only software package that provides customers with a unique framework to tailor a custom archiving policy for emails, file system documents, instant messages and Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server documents. Customers that do not immediately require all the functionalities of Enterprise Vault can choose to implement additional capability as required, customizing their policies to meet current storage and regulatory compliance needs and anticipate future requirements.

“The variety and sheer volume of business records that must now be archived drove us to develop this framework approach for our customers,” said Mary Kay Roberto, senior vice president, KVS North America. “In response to legislation such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and HIPAA, enterprises are archiving all types of documents, not just emails. By adopting a framework approach, organizations can pick and choose modules as required for their specific levels of business risk, storage optimization and lifecycle management.”

Choice of storage platform is one of the most critical areas in long-term archiving. The wrong choice can cost millions and expose the business to undue regulatory and legal risk. Through Enterprise Vault’s Open Storage Layer™ and partnerships with the industry’s leading storage providers, KVS can anticipate how storage use will change over time. The Open Storage Layer addresses today’s storage requirements, provides a platform for dealing with legacy content and allows seamless exploitation of future technologies to lower the ongoing total cost of ownership and protect against future risk.

Demand for the new features in Enterprise Vault version 5 was driven directly from the KVS blue chip customer base. Companies such as T-Com, part of Deutsche Telekom, will use Enterprise Vault version 5 for File System Archiving, deploying to approximately 100,000 T-Com employees over the coming months. T-Com will use File System Archiving to archive multiple versions of a document and make them available via a web interface. This not only delivers efficiency of storage but also provides an instant recovery in the event of data loss without the need for a Backup Administrator. Instead the user connects to his Web Archive and reinstates the necessary data with a mouse-click.

"We initially deployed Enterprise Vault twelve months ago in order to address our key business drivers - the management of email and email back-up, the reliability of Exchange, email storage and retrieval", said Tony Oliver, Storage Architect, RWE Innogy, a leading U.K.-based energy provider. “Looking ahead, we intend to further extend our system capabilities by deploying File System Archiving, which will allow Innogy to increase the efficiencies of our existing Vault further, enabling us to retrieve, index and archive file systems through storage compression capabilities."

One of the major benefits of email and content archiving is the ability to maintain a long-term repository of corporate records which will become vital in the event of litigation or regulatory compliance. The Enterprise Vault Business Accelerators address this by enabling an organization to exploit archived content for compliance and legal protection.

Now in its fourth year of trading, KVS has shipped more than 4.5 million user license of its flagship product, Enterprise Vault, equating to more than 1.275 million mailboxes, and last year saw its installed user base more than double, securing its market leading position with the largest installed customer base worldwide.
