Managed Service reduces level of spam from 70% to zero
Hook, Hampshire (7th April 2004) – MCSG, a strategic business unit of HarrierZeuros, announced today that it has alleviated a spam invasion affecting the Northern College of Acupuncture (NCA). Using BlackSpider Technologies’ MailControl Spam, MCSG has enabled the NCA to filter out spam and other offensive messages, dramatically reducing its levels of spam from seventy percent on some email accounts to virtually zero.
The NCA contacted MCSG when a large volume of spam, much of which was of an obscene nature, started to appear in the inbox of the generic email and employee accounts, for advice on how to prevent it.

It can be a nasty experience for staff particularly if they use the preview pane available in some email clients,” comments Richard Blackwell, Principal of the Northern College of Acupuncture.
Based in York, the nationally recognised NCA is an independent educational charity dedicated to training in the healing arts of Chinese medicine. Founded in 1988, it is the only organisation of its kind in the Yorkshire and Humber region and has trained more than 250 acupuncturists and practitioners of Chinese herbal medicine from throughout Britain. The College has played a leading role in the development of the profession. For example, its acupuncture course was the first in the UK to be validated at degree level and it now offers the first MSc in Chinese Herbal Medicine, both awards validated by the University of Wales.
As a small organisation, the NCA does not have full time IT employees, so MCSG recommended Blackspider Technologies MailControl Spam, a managed service that uses a variety of techniques including lexical analysis, real-time black lists, Bayesian probability, trend analysis, customer-controlled white and black lists to provide high levels of spam detection and almost eliminates false positives.
