Serengeti continue to make important advances in the academic and public sectors.

With their recent successful implementations for Edinburgh and Aberdeen Universities safely under their belt, Serengeti now look to continue this trend with three new important academic projects.

The Serengeti e-intranet application is a document management system based on Oracle iFS – it is used for managing electronic documents and making them available to users by means of a browser interface. In two of the above projects, e-intranet has been delivered with the recently released content management module to provide enterprise wide content management.

Langside College’s requirement is for a Document Management and Content Management System to be implemented under the contract to allow effective and efficient document management, together with content creation and maintenance for Langside College’s internal (intranet) and external web sites.

The first phase of the project will be to provide a simple mechanism for controlling and managing all content for publication on internal and external websites. Future plans include utilising further functionality of e-intranet to manage all documents and scanned images within the College. The system is fully compatible with Langside College’s existing operating environments and will provide full access control over its users.

Langside operates in over 80 community-based venues, in and around Glasgow. The college enrols 7,000 students annually with a full-time equivalent of 2,700.

In an open tender situation, Serengeti System has won this substantial contract. Aston University have asked Serengeti Systems to implement a content management system to facilitate the delivery of a new website which would transform the current site (40,000 pages) into a format which would raise awareness of Aston University to all.

The brief for the Aston web site was to create a lively, well-designed site, which re-instates the corporate Brand Presence of Aston University. Aston also wish to reach a wider audience emphasising the successes of the university, to increase its corporate reputation and market differentiation - educating customers about the University by reinforcing key messages. Ultimately, persuading users to consider studying, or entering into a partnership with Aston University. Finally, Serengeti will provide Consultancy services to support Aston University staff in migrating existing content from the current website to the new e-intranet Content Management system.

The initial phase of the project is well underway, with the pilot being up and running and a number of departments having started to add content. The new site is expected to go live early in the New Year. Aston has the best record for graduate recruitment in the UK. Of the 98 universities in the Financial Times latest survey, only Aston scores 100 points for employment.

Using e-intranet will allow the University of Liverpool to provide a system to store documents, forms, and records and to provide a single verifiable version of all records supported by a comprehensive process to ensure management throughout their life cycle.

The Student Examination Division requires documentation to be stored in an electronic format in a document management system. This will enable users to search for any record regarding a student in a secure, central system.

The document management system will also need to be integrated with the existing SCT Banner Student Registry System to provide a way of retrieving documents in e-intranet from within the SED system itself. Existing student records held on the system are required to be stored in the e-intranet repository. The scope of the project also includes migration of the images and index data from existing CD storage. Paper based student documents will be scanned and indexed.

Liverpool is one of the UK’s leading research universities with a reputation nationally and internationally for high quality teaching and research. In the course of its history the University has been associated with no less than eight Nobel Laureates.

e-intranet continues to be the Document Management and Content Management Software of choice for a large percentage of UK universities, academic institutions and colleges.

Serengeti Systems are one of the leading providers of Electronic Document and Content Management Services to Public and Private Sector organisations within the UK.

Serengeti Systems Ltd are the only UK Oracle Partner developing Document and Content Management Systems using the Oracle CMSDK and iFS (Internet File System).
