Major FTSE-100 company, Liberty International has just signed-up for Iconium’s ESP security management software to protect its UK wide IT network infrastructure. The decision to use ESP was taken after extensive trials and Liberty has opted for Iconium’s monthly licence scheme for the complete suite of ESP Security Manager for 400 workstations and 75 Servers. .

ESP security management complements other security systems, such as Firewalls and virus protection, aimed at preventing attacks from external sources. Its focus is internal IT security. It is designed to actively monitor an organisation’s complete network of workstations and servers in real time and automatically alert management to any unusual or suspicious activity. This is achieved via a browser-based console and e-mail messaging.

Liberty is one of the UK’s leading property groups with investments of over £5 billion. The decision to use ESP was part of a continual review of security and a response to the issues of managing remote networks at the Group’s nine major Shopping Centres. .

The group has gained unexpected operational benefits from the use of ESP as it has proved a valuable tool for centralised operational management, reporting on the initiation and completion of routine operations throughout the network.

Ian McDonald, acting Network and Operations Manager for Liberty believes that Iconium’s ESP Security Manager is playing a vital part in the security and management of the group’s IT network infrastructure. “Hardening perimeter security is vital but we also needed the capability to audit and monitor what is going on inside that defensive boundary. With ESP agents installed on all workstations and servers across the group, we are able to monitor events and be alerted to suspicious activities immediately that they happen. We have also gained unexpected operational task management benefits, a real bonus.” he comments.

“We were also keen to use Iconium’s monthly licence scheme as it allows us the flexibility to grow the system as the benefits grow, and pay for what we are actually using, rather than what we plan to use” he adds

ESP is able to monitor and report on some 6500-event types on a wide range of network devices. By detecting defined types of activities as they occur, security incidents are identified notified and may be acted upon immediately, thus minimising possible consequential damage. ESP was developed with the help and cooperation of Royal and Sun Alliance.

Robin Laidlaw, Chairman of Iconium, comments, “We welcome Liberty International as a customer and are pleased that they are already gaining additional operational benefits from the use of the software. The issue of centralised management, whether security or operational, in a multi-location environment is one that many users face. Winning such sophisticated customers as Royal Sun Alliance and Liberty proves that ESP has the right user definable tools to protect against such issues at an affordable cost.”

ESP is available on purchase or monthly licence terms. Prices are charged on a per server and per workstation basis. Agents start at £290 (£6.00 per month) per server and £29 (£0.75 per month) per workstation for less than 100 devices. The ESP management server software costs from £7500 (£250 per month). There are price break discounts based on quantity.

There are two levels of maintenance, standard and enhanced. Standard maintenance provides for minor release updates and cost 18% of the purchase price per annum. Enhanced maintenance, which includes all new software releases, implementation consultancy and site checks every 6 months, costs 30% of the purchase price per annum. ESP rental prices are for one, three and five year periods and also reflect volume discounts.
