LONDON, 19 May, 2004 - Kesa Electricals, Europe’s third largest electrical retailing group, has selected corporate performance management (CPM) software vendor, IntelligentApps, to deliver a powerful analysis front end to its data warehouse. The application will provide detailed sales and margin analysis, which will drive product-buying synergies across the organisation as Kesa Electricals develops its supplier management strategy. The Group operates nearly 700 stores across seven European countries, its key brands include Darty and BUT in France and Comet in the UK.
Following its demerger from Kingfisher, Kesa Electricals completely re-evaluated its data warehouse reporting requirements to ensure it had the most appropriate tools in place for the new company’s reporting and analysis needs. Jon Pallot, CIO, Kesa Electricals explained: “We wanted a solution that would enable us to take advantage of the normal OLAP style slice and dice, but we also wanted the added depth of being able to carry out advanced multiple product category selections that could be easily formatted into usable reports.”
IntelligentApps replaces a combination of Wired Analyzer and Business Objects. “By removing the need to combine our reporting and analysis across two distinct product sets and share data between the two IntelligentApps addresses our previous limitations and will enable us to improve our productivity,” said Pallot. “The multi-query and multi-tool approach demonstrated by IntelligentApps offered huge functionality advantages.”
According to Pallot IntelligentApps was also preferred for its superior Excel functionality. “We looked at other tools during the evaluation, but we kept coming back to this Excel add-in approach combined with the multi-query and multi-tool approach. Our users love the powerful Excel interface in IntelligentApps and we can keep our training costs to a minimum because at the front-end is a tool that everyone is totally familiar with.”
End users include Kesa Electricals’ commercial financial analysts and central sourcing teams. Key business measurements include product costs and volumes, sales costs and volumes, customer management strategy, range buying, supplier management strategy, price comparison, margin comparisons.
Kesa Electricals will benefit from having a more accurate understanding of who they are buying from and at what price, as well as who is buying from them and in what product categories. ”On a daily basis the financial analysts will be creating margin reports and analyses, and the category managers will be evaluating how particular products are performing, conducting range reviews, or preparing for supplier negotiations,” explained Pallot.
With the implementation due to go live at the end of May Pallot is anticipating significant productivity gains. “We anticipate that by deploying IntelligentApps we will see a 2-3 fold improvement in our analytical capabilities. This is hugely significant because as the company expands our existing staff will be required to support an increased range of core products and negotiate with a larger number suppliers.”
