To meet installer demand, Krone has now launched a component compliant Category 6 PCB patch panel. Krone's 24 port PCB patch panel format has been the clear favourite with installers for many years because of the ease with which it can be wired.
As Krone's Cat 6 product manager Kevin Anderson explained; "With Cat 5e the design was relatively straightforward because there's loads of headroom to play with. With Cat 6, the laws of physics and backwards compatibility cut that down to a fraction - so a completely new level of design and manufacturing quality is needed. It has taken extensive R&D to get performance that exceeds the Cat 6 standard in this easy to install format.
To meet the demanding challenges of Cat 6 component compliance, many new elements have been introduced into the Cat 6 PCB design. Near end crosstalk (NEXT) is a critical factor. To maximise performance Krone have rearranged the IDC punchdown connectors to reduce the possibility of un-twisting the pairs at the point of termination. (Un-twisting can seriously degrade network performance).
Installers will notice that no longer are jacks grouped together - Krone have introduced solid metal separators between each jack to increase the performance, specifically on the shielded version of the product.
"All of these performance improvements have been achieved without any compromise in the ease of installation," claims Anderson. "We believe that this is the easiest to install Cat 6 patch panel in the marketplace. It will rapidly become the new installers' favourite!"
The fact that the Cat 6 PCB patch panel is component compliant means that it is fully interoperable with other manufacturers truly component compliant Cat 6 products and fully backward compatible with Cat 5e products.
"Component compliance," reminds Anderson, "for every element in the network is the only way of being sure that the installed system will deliver true end-to-end Cat 6 performance. Most manufacturers only have link or channel certification - and then only for a few sample configurations, not the complete range of permutations that exist in the field. Every Krone Cat 6 product is fully component compliant."
