American Power Conversion Introduces New APC Back-UPS® RS 800

-High Performance Power Protection for Business Computers-

LONDON, England May 24th 2004 – American Power Conversion (APC) today announced an expansion of its award-winning Back-UPS® family of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) with the introduction of Back-UPS® RS 800 for business computers. The new Back-UPS RS 800 with USB or serial connectivity offers advanced Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) protection with up to 75 minutes of battery backup time in the event of a power failure.

With more and more critical business applications depending on networks, high availability is crucial to the success of any business. Power interruptions or outages can cause problems including keyboard lockups, corrupted data, and lost Internet connections as well as hardware degradation and system crashes resulting in complete data loss. APC Back-UPS RS 800 protects businesses against downtime and damage caused by power problems.

Back-UPS RS 800VA/540 Watts is an affordable high performance power protection providing up to 75 minutes of battery backup time. Its user-replaceable battery system allows users to replace batteries without shutting down the connected equipment at a fraction of the cost of a new UPS. AVR Boost and AVR Trim correct low and high voltage conditions, enabling uninterruptible work without unnecessary battery drain. Back-UPS RS 800 also features an Internet/DSL/FAX/Modem/Network line surge protection and 6 outlets (4 IEC 320-C13 powered outlets and 2 IEC 320-C13 surge only outlets).

To support recent trends of increased USB-integrated peripheral adoption, Back-UPS RS 800 is able to communicate with desktop systems using either USB or serial communication.

In addition, Back-UPS RS 800 comes with free file-saving auto-shutdown software for Mac OS X, Mac OS 9 and Windows XP/2000/ME/98. PowerChute® Plus Personal Edition, an easy-to-use software with sophisticated power management features, allows orderly system shutdown in the event of an extended power failure. It automatically saves open files, closes open applications, and gracefully shuts down the operating system thus protecting hard disk and data.

“Companies are increasingly aware that downtime can be costly and may result in lost businesses. The Back-UPS RS 800 has been uniquely designed to improve productivity by ensuring Internet connections and desktops are protected with high-performance surge suppression and intelligent battery backup,” said Mike Adams, APC country manager for the United Kingdom and Ireland. “It is a cost-effective and reliable solution for protecting their hardware and more importantly the data on their desktops.”

APC’s new Back-UPS RS 800 comes standard with 2 years comprehensive warranty (including battery), an Equipment protection Policy of 150,000 Euro and Data Recovery Warranty (valid in the European community countries only) It is available now in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) and carry a suggested retail price of 199.99 Euros.
