UK-based technology innovator, Telabria, has launched CampusMesh, the first product designed to deliver both Ethernet and WiFi access to enterprise and public sector locations.

CampusMesh is a ground-breaking, cost-effective wireless wide area network (WAN) that combines Ethernet connectivity between buildings and secure indoor and outdoor WiFi hotzone coverage across a specific location.

Developed for geographically diverse sites such as business and enterprise parks, educational campuses, large corporations with satellite offices, and for public sector locations, including libraries, schools, tourist information centres and public transport stations, CampusMesh removes the need to lay underground cables between buildings, thereby dramatically reducing the cost of deploying network solutions.

In addition, CampusMesh can be tailored to a customer’s exact requirements, delivering a bespoke portal, intranet or extranet system. In a recent pilot for CampusMesh in Kent-based libraries, Telabria designed the system to include a specific education portal, allowing local students to access class work and reference resources out of school.

CampusMesh operates without requiring line-of-sight by leveraging Telabria’s mSystem wireless network platform, which incorporates a state-of-the-art system of hardware units called mNodes that deliver both instant Ethernet and built-in WiFi access points. Multiple mNodes mesh together to form a single, wireless backhaul, eliminating the need for a fixed wire network.

Utilising a pioneering multi-radio architecture, mNodes simultaneously offer wide area WiFi coverage that provides high-speed network and Internet access to mobile laptop, tablet and PDA users in and around a campus.

The Telabria system is both highly flexible and scalable, and can be adapted to the changing needs and requirements of an organisation. For example, as a business park expands, new or temporary buildings can be added to the network by simply installing a new mNode, at a fraction of the cost of traditional network cable installation.

Telabria founder and chief executive Jim Baker said: “CampusMesh is next-generation, multi-radio wireless technology for today’s networking needs. The product is the first of its kind and is quick and easy to install, and very portable.

“More importantly, the flexibility of the CampusMesh architecture means we can design a bespoke network service tailored to an organisation’s requirements. This is a significant advantage, allowing CampusMesh to evolve, and grow, with the needs of an organisation.

“Whether Internet connectivity is fibre, leased line, satellite or fixed wireless, CampusMesh works with today’s network structures, and we have also developed the system ready for emerging technologies, including 802.16 WiMax.

“By eliminating the need for wired backhaul, and providing indoor and outdoor WiFi coverage, CampusMesh will reduce deployment time, increase return-on-investment, and build an infrastructure prepared for future requirements.”

Telabria is an award-winning provider of wireless solutions based near Ashford, Kent. Founded in 2003 by multi-media pioneer, Jim Baker, the company also recently launched RuralMesh - a cutting-edge service delivering broadband access to rural and remote communities in South East England.
