EMC Expands Information Lifecycle Management With ADIC Tape Solutions

11 June 2004 – EMC Corporation and Advanced Digital Information Corporation (ADIC) today announced that EMC will resell ADIC Scalar® tape libraries to expand its industry-leading information lifecycle management portfolio, and ADIC will resell EMC CLARiiON® CX networked storage as part of its Pathlight VX virtual tape solution. Specific terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

EMC will offer ADIC’s industry-leading automated tape libraries, including the ADIC Scalar 24, Scalar 100, Scalar i2000 and Scalar 10K models with LTO tape drive technology expanding EMC’s market opportunity and providing customers with a complete, end-to-end tiered storage offering that now includes a tape solution for nearline storage and offsite vaulting. ADIC will offer customers enhanced backup performance and reliability by reselling EMC’s industry-leading CLARiiON CX networked storage systems as part of its Pathlight VX virtual tape solution.

Howard Elias, EMC Executive Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Office of Technology, said, “With today’s announcement, EMC continues to showcase its commitment to providing customers with the broadest and deepest set of capabilities across the industry’s widest range of tiered storage offerings. By selecting ADIC as our partner, EMC now provides customers the option of a tape solution for nearline storage and offsite vaulting, completing the final tier of storage in an ILM strategy.”

Peter van Oppen, ADIC Chairman and CEO, said, “ADIC is pleased to be working with EMC to bring IT departments a complete range of storage solutions to support their growing data protection and ILM needs while providing them with the highest overall system reliability and performance along with the lowest long-term TCO. Together, EMC and ADIC offer an industry-leading combination of performance and value, and bring together proven technologies in a way that solves our customers’ data storage problems in innovative ways.”

The ADIC Scalar library family features include integrated SAN support, intelligent monitoring and alerting functions, capacity-on-demand scalability, and options for full redundant robotics and controllers for high availability operations. Pathlight VX combines disk and tape in a single integrated system, providing twice the backup and restore performance of conventional systems without requiring that users change their existing data-protection procedures.

Adding ADIC tape solutions complement and expand EMC’s industry leading tiered storage offerings. EMC provides its customers with Symmetrix DMX for high-end storage, CLARiiON for mid-tier storage and low cost solutions with our latest addition to the CLARiiON family, the AX100 based on ATA technology. CLARiiON with ATA and CLARiiON Disk Library deliver backup-to-disk capabilities, while Centera Content Addressed Storage (CAS) delivers active archiving with the highest levels of compliance and retention. EMC’s Connectrix and Celerra provide the flexible connectivity for our customer’s SAN and NAS networked storage environments.

Products from ADIC and EMC will be available beginning in July.
