What do a former Beatle, a Bond Girl and the drummer of Oasis have in common? They have all owned the Mercedes-Benz AMG on offer in BCA’s next Classic & Historic sale at Blackbushe on Saturday, 31st July.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG 190 E 2.3 was personally imported to the UK in 1984 by the first owner Mr. Richard (Ringo Starr) Starkey. The car remained in his possession until 1989 when the registration document was transferred into the name of Lornington Ltd., Ringo’s company, and then to Barbara (Bach) Starkey and finally to Ringo’s son Zak (drumming for Oasis this summer), whose name is currently recorded as the vehicle’s keeper.
Apart from three famous owners, this Mercedes benefits from a £10,000 conversion to AMG wide-body specification. This was carried out by specialists Strattons (Wimslow) Ltd and included a full AMG body kit, steering wheel, colour keyed alloy wheels and grille, lowered suspension, exhaust system and an AMG 2.3-litre engine upgrade.
Finished in black with a matching interior the car is in good condition throughout. Understandably, the car has undergone more than one transfer of registration and confirmation of the cars provenance is provided in the form of a DVLA record search and the invoice for the conversion work addressed to Mr. R Starkey.
The V5 document and an MOT current to April next year are also supplied and the car is very sensibly estimated at around £5,000 – in fact rather less than you would pay for a set of Beatles autographs!
A further 60 cars will be on offer at Blackbushe including a 1968 Hillman Imp Californian that has covered 40 miles from new, a 1928 Morris Oxford All-weather Coupe, 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Swept-tail Limousine and a 1960/1985 Austin-Healey Lenham ‘special’ with competition history. There is also a1988 Daimler Double Six that has had one owner from new and has covered just 26,000 miles with a full supporting service history from the supplying dealer.
BCA's Classic & Historic sale commences at the Blackbushe auction centre at 1.00 pm, with viewing on the morning of the sale (Saturday, 31st July) from 9.30 am. Entrance is by catalogue only, priced at £17.50 (admits two).
