Telecommunications managers are to benefit from a new service launched today by CellClear that will enable them to reduce the cost of landline to mobile telephone calls by up to 60 per cent.

The CellClear solution provides dramatic cost savings for large organisations wishing to reduce the cost of its monthly telephone bill. The solution utilises a blend of technologies to convert landline-to-mobile calls into mobile-to-mobile calls – reducing call costs without impairing call quality.

Investment free
CellClear has put together a package aimed at enterprise users and public sector organisations, which requires no capital investment. Working with some of the UK’s leading financial bodies, the CellClear solution is rented on a monthly basis with all equipment, service and installation costs included. This means that the user organisation can benefit straight away from a massive reduction in fixed to mobile calls. Current clients utilising the CellClear solution include East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Luton Borough Council, University College London, Queens University Belfast, Basildon NHS, Granada Media Group.

How it works
Today, mobile network operators fix the cost of interconnect charges between each other and fixed line operators – this impacts on the cost of landline to mobile calls because the network infrastructure defaults to routing landline calls through the fixed network before releasing them to the mobile network.

While there has been a reduction in the cost of landline calls over the past decade or so, the proportion of landline to mobile calls has rocketed and the tariffs that apply in passing landline calls across to the mobile networks have provided telecommunications companies with a sizeable revenue stream.

CellClear has developed a solution to reduce the cost of this process. It uses an Enterprise GSM Gateway connected directly to the user organisation’s PBX. The PBX sends calls to the Gateway, which delivers the call via a SIM Card direct to the mobile network. The Gateway effectively ‘converts’ a Landline to Mobile call to a mobile to mobile phone call.
