Road charging, financial transactions or any critical events involving split second timing, can only work if all the computers in the network are actually working to the exactly the same time signal. Galleon Systems of Birmingham first tackled this problem in 1985, and it has now built up the widest range of time synchronisation products currently available.

New products include a low cost rack-mount time server for computer networks, available for immediate delivery at £553 plus VAT. Designed as a self-contained plug in and operate unit, it will provide an accurate time signal for Windows or Linux servers. It can also be used to synchronise PC’s workstations, and other Windows servers across the network using Time-Synch NTP client software. This conforms to the Network Time Protocol (NTP) and can be set up as a Stratum 1 Time Server.

The unit operates by picking up the Rugby MSF signal. Hardware comprises a 2U rack mount box with mains powered atomic radio- controlled computer clock, power supply and converter. The remote antenna can be located up to 200m (600ft) away. An integral time display and LED signal strength indicators are incorporated into the facia.
