Aqualert Water Alarm quickly detects water leaks -
potentially saving homeowners £1000s

28 July 2004: Every year thousands of homeowners suffer water leaks that cause serious damage to their property and possessions. Often, these leaks are from domestic pipe work and plumbed equipment that go undetected for hours or even days. There used to be very little householders could do to protect themselves from this hidden danger, but a new low-cost safety device from UK company Jacarta is set to change that. Compact, easy to use and very cost effective, Aqualert Water Alarm could soon become as common in homes as smoke detectors and burglar alarms.

Originally developed for industrial use, the device can quickly detect even the smallest of water leaks (as little as 5ml of water will activate Aqualert), causing it to emit a very loud (115dB) alarm. Smaller than a cigarette packet and powered by three AAA batteries, it can be easily positioned to monitor such danger areas as under dishwashers, shower trays, bathtubs, water pipes, water storage tanks and freezers.

The clever part of Aqualert Water Alarm is its specially developed sensor cable. When water comes into contact with this it triggers the audible alarm from the main unit, which will continue to sound until it is turned off or the sensor cable has dried out. The three-metre long cable allows a single Aqualert to provide protection for larger areas, for example a cellar floor, as well as specific danger points.

Aqualert costs just £34.99 (plus £4.50 p+p) and is available direct from Jacarta at
