Comverse To Replace Competitor’s Voicemail System For The Leading South African Mobile Carrier; Comverse ISMSC Also Selected

Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMVT), and the world’s leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communication services, today announced that Vodacom, South Africa’s largest mobile GSM network operator with a subscriber base of more than 10 million, has selected Comverse InSight™ to enable next-generation voicemail services. Vodacom also has chosen Comverse ISMSC (Intelligent Short Message Service Center) to handle SMS voicemail notifications.

InSight’s open environment for value-added voice and data (video and multimedia) services — united by a consistent user interface — will allow Vodacom to acquire and deploy a rich portfolio of Comverse Total Communication and infotainment services as well as third-party services. The improved efficiencies provided by InSight’s next generation IP architecture can translate into faster, cost-effective service deployments.

“Call completion and other enhanced services are an integral part of our service menu, so we had to act when our legacy voicemail system from a different supplier could no longer be upgraded to handle the increasing needs of our subscribers,” said Johan Engelbrecht, Director of Network Engineering and Support at Vodacom. “Our ongoing exceptional experience with Comverse services such as Voicemail and SMS validated our decision to complete the migration to Comverse InSight — an important step forward that will benefit our subscribers with exciting enhanced voice and data services far into the future.”

Stuart Eveleigh, Managing Director of Comverse Africa said, “We value the relationship we have developed with Vodacom throughout the continent of Africa. Vodacom is now advancing on two fronts: improving customer service and generating incremental ARPU, whilst laying a future-proof infrastructure for next-generation enhanced services, including 3G (housed on the InSight architecture). Each additional deployment of InSight around the world further underscores the value and timeliness of its high performance and open environment for next-generation services.”
