WIDE AREA DEPLOYMENT FOR SQL SERVER 2000 ANALYSIS SERVICES APPLICATIONS; MASSIVE SCALABILITY; 10-40 FOLD PERFORMANCE INCREASES
LONDON, 2 August, 2004 - IntelligentApps, worldwide provider of Microsoft Excel and Web-based Corporate Performance Management (CPM) software, announced the availability of its XMLA driver for SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services. IntelligentApps 4.0 XMLA driver solves the complex issue of wide area deployment of Analysis Services applications by increasing the speed of analysis across networks. The high performance XMLA driver will benefit users where low-bandwidth or the lack of a Local Area Network is an issue. Users are promised unprecedented scalability and performance increases.
IntelligentApps 4.0 XMLA is sold as an additional tool in the IntelligentApps product family. It is the second product developed in partnership with Digital Aspects, developers of Direct Analytic solutions *.
Paul Martin, CEO IntelligentApps commented: “With IntelligentApps 4.0, we have focused 100% on addressing some of the more technical issues and constraints that can affect enterprise scalability and successful deployment of SQL Server Analysis Services for larger applications. Issues that are beyond the sales demo or even initial implementations but are the real world reality organisations face as their projects grow. IntelligentApps 4.0 XMLA driver alleviates the need for PivotTable Service by harnessing Digital Aspects’ XMLA Driver technology.”
ALLEVIATING NEED FOR PIVOTTABLE(R) SERVICE
PivotTable Service is the way end users technically access cubes from Microsoft client based BI tools. Data and structures are cached between the client and server to optimize ongoing query performance for the end user.
The significance of caching is explained by Martin: “If a report has a customer dimension where the user is permitted to change the customer for that report, and the associated cube has 500,000 customers, then 500,000 customer names will potentially be cached on the client. This can result in significant network traffic. For Local Area Network users this is often not a problem, but, for Wide Area Network deployment, or deployment where dial up is a requirement, this may be insurmountable or require costly upgrades to your corporate network infrastructure. Until now, that is.”
XMLA exploits the processing power of the server and minimizes network traffic in low-bandwidth areas. It provides users with excellent query connection and execution, regardless of where and how they are located on a network. The result is far more efficient bandwidth utilization.
Gordon Roxon, CEO, Digital Aspects noted: “Digital Aspects’ XMLA Driver allows end users to connect to data across the Internet and safely through firewalls and bring it to familiar desktop analysis and reporting tools. It can be used to support power users querying high volume OLAP data sources, particularly where they connect through low-bandwidth or high-latency networks. Performance improvements can often be dramatic. IntelligentApps recognised the value of this to its customers and embedded our XMLA technology in the IntelligentApps 4.0 architecture.”
