August 2004: By creating a blended learning programme incorporating e-learning, telecom giant, Equant, has been able to train over 8,500 employees globally and save $6.5million.
Equant developed the strategy to deliver a steady stream of consistently high-level training relating to Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, telecommunications and networking. Traditional classroom instruction was time-consuming and costly – particularly for a diverse employee base dispersed across the globe - so the company integrated elements of instructor-led training with generic and company-specific e-learning, and then supplemented it with a 24x7 expert mentoring service.
To achieve this, Equant built the company-specific e-learning in-house and partnered with e-learning provider SkillSoft for the mentoring service and the generic e-learning content. By the end of 2003 more than 8,500 employees had actively used e-learning – a user rate of over 85%.
