New Moulded Boot Improves Durability

CHELTENHAM – August 26, 2004 – ADC (NASDAQ: ADCT) today announced that KRONE, recently acquired by ADC, has launched, within its 100% tested, 100% component compliant patchcord range, a new Cat5e patchcord design with even greater mechanical durability and reduced footprint at the patch panel and outlet. This comes at a time when the marketplace demands conforming patchcords as they are deployed in the network.

Superior mechanical design has always been a major differentiator of KRONE brand products and booted RJ-45 plugs for strain-relief continue to be a feature of the company’s Cat5e patchcords. Now with the new KRONE overmoulded patchcord, the need for a separate boot is dispensed with as a new moulding technique enables the boot to become an integral part of the factory terminated plug.

The longer, more durable section provides additional strain relief and gives increased protection to the cable whilst preserving minimum bend radius and reducing even further the stress differential at the end point of the strain relief.

The fact that the new overmoulded strain relief section does not overhang the plug, but instead has the same cross sectional area, means that the patch panel is less crowded, making plug withdrawal easier on high density installations.

The Cat5e overmoulded range is available in PVC white, blue, red, yellow, green and grey, LSZH will be also be available shortly. Standard lengths are 1,2,3 and 5metres with other lengths available on request.

No changes in pricing were made for the Cat5e overmoulded patchcord.
