10 Million Copies of FileMaker Shipped
Annual Conference featuring launch of
FileMaker Server 7 Advanced and FileMaker co-creators draws record number of attendees
London, UK – August 31, 2004 – At the opening of the 2004 FileMaker Developer Conference, FileMaker, Inc. announced it has shipped over 10 million copies of FileMaker, the easy-to-use database software for managing people, projects, images, assets and other information. Originally launched in April 1984 as one of the first desktop database applications, FileMaker Pro has evolved into the best-selling, cross-platform workgroup database – used by both small organizations and large enterprises. In addition, the company announced the immediate availability of FileMaker Server 7 Advanced and the FileMaker Server 7 Advanced Development License (see today’s separate news releases).
FileMaker also announced record attendance for its annual FileMaker Developer Conference 2004 The annual gathering of corporate and independent FileMaker developers, which continues through September 1 at the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, in Phoenix, Arizona, has attracted more than 1,400 worldwide attendees.
“The goals that inspired the birth of FileMaker 20 years ago have become the success factors that are driving its popularity today – ease-of-use, flexibility, and power,” said Dominique Goupil, president of FileMaker, Inc as he welcomed FileMaker creators Alan Albert and Dan Chadwick as guest speakers at the conference. “Knowledge workers and developers have embraced feature-rich capabilities of FileMaker Po, the ability to customize and the simplicity that allows non-technical users to easily use a database solution to handle business critical processes.”
In March 2004, the company launched FileMaker 7, the most significant upgrade in its history. The highly-reviewed solution has already received several “Editor’s Choice” awards. FileMaker Pro is now used by 49 of the top 50 undergraduate universities and colleges in the U.S. and by 70 of the Fortune 100 companies.
Since its original design as a desktop PC application, FileMaker Pro has expanded into an entire product family that also includes FileMaker Server, FileMaker Server 7 Advanced with instant and custom web publishing, FileMaker Developer, FileMaker Mobile for handheld devices, FileMaker Applications, instant FileMaker Starter Solutions, plus more than 500 third-party FileMaker-based solutions available worldwide.
