BroadVision, Inc. (Nasdaq: BVSN), a global provider of self-service web applications, today announced that PKN ORLEN, Poland and Central Europe’s largest refiner of crude oil and marketer of world-class petroleum and related products, has standardized on BroadVision® self-service web applications – including BroadVision Portal™ and BroadVision Process™ – to power a wide range of web initiatives and to consolidate web sites for the 100 subsidiaries and companies in the ORLEN Capital Group.

“e-Business is a high priority at PKN ORLEN,” said Jerzy Bielec, IT Director, PKN ORLEN. “After an extensive evaluation, we chose BroadVision because of the company’s proven success with website consolidation, ease of use, personalization and seamless integration to SAP systems on the backend. We are especially excited about the new BroadVision Process solution, which allows us to quickly add new self-service processes to the portal without hard coding.”

PKN ORLEN is using a single portal platform from BroadVision to power a wide range of web initiatives including:

•a portal for institutional customers, with an associated loyalty program that leverages BroadVision’s leading personalization
•portals for PKN Orlen’s 100 subsidiaries and associated companies
•an employee portal

BroadVision Process, a new addition to the BroadVision integrated self-service suite, allows ORLEN to build on the out-of-the-box functionality of BroadVision Portal to quickly web-enable self-service processes that are unique to particular groups, divisions or subsidiaries within the company. ORLEN is evaluating Open Source as a platform for future web initiatives and BroadVision’s support for Open Source at the platform layers was a key factor in selecting the product as part of their e-business infrastructure.

PKN ORLEN operates a network of approximately 1,900 petrol stations in Poland and 500 outlets in Germany. The retail network is supported by an efficient logistics infrastructure, complete with storage depots and a pipeline network. The integrated refining and petrochemical production complex in Plock, Poland is one of the most advanced and efficient facilities of its kind in Europe with a total throughput capacity of 17.8 m tons.

The company has grown through strategic mergers and acquisitions and continues to seek M&A opportunities. BroadVision software plays a key role in the assimilation process by helping companies within the ORLEN group communicate efficiently and leverage central resources while retaining appropriate autonomy. For example, project teams and other groups within the company will use the microsite functionality in BroadVision Portal as an online meeting area to exchange ideas and share documents.

“We are delighted that PKN ORLEN has standardized on BroadVision to power and unify their Web initiatives, using BroadVision Process to sustain their competitive advantage,” said Dr. Pehong Chen, president and CEO, BroadVision. ”By providing a single portal infrastructure for all the companies in the PKN ORLEN the company achieves their goal of reducing costs. By adding BroadVision Process to the mix, they give each group and division in the company the ability to quickly web-enable new self-service processes - driving more business through the portal, which further reduces costs and increases revenue.”

BroadVision is a leading provider of self-service web applications to companies in the energy industry, including Baker Hughes, OMV and Saudi Aramco.
