Basingstoke, UK, Sep. 3, 2004 – Barracuda Networks, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise-class spam firewall solutions, today announced the immediate deployment of firmware version 3.0 for its entire Barracuda Spam Firewall product line. This firmware provides several advanced features including interface localisation, cluster synchronisation, and Sender ID Framework support.

With Firmware 3.0 the Barracuda Spam Firewall GUI (Graphical User Interface) will now fully support eight languages including Japanese, French, Chinese, German, and Spanish, as well as several multi-byte languages. The Barracuda Spam Firewall will also recognise and filter spam written in these languages.

“We are dedicated to making email security easily accessible and manageable for all of our customers around the world,” said Dean Drako, president and CEO of Barracuda Networks. “Our user interface is now available in more languages than any other anti-spam appliance.”

New cluster synchronisation ensures high availability and ease of administration of the Barracuda Spam Firewall. This feature also allows the user to make changes on one master machine and have those changes propagate to all other Barracuda Spam Firewall units automatically.

“Our latest firmware upgrade raises the bar further in terms of performance and scalability,” said Drako. “We continue to look for ways to ensure that the Barracuda Spam Firewall is prepared to defend against the latest email born threats. These new features reinforce our goal of providing customers with the best spam solution in its class.”

Other advanced features included with firmware version 3.0 include:

· Alias Linking: Using LDAP to automatically determine if multiple email addresses belong to the same user, this feature ensures that each user only needs to manage one account for all of their email addresses.

· Customisable NDR Messages: Bounce message text is now customisable and can be created for virus, spam and banned file notifications for both the sender and recipients.

· Single Sign-On: Enables users to log on to the Barracuda Spam Firewall using their domain passwords.

· SSL (Secure Socket Layer): Now included in the Web interface for enhanced security for new Single Sign-On functionality.

Barracuda Networks also recently announced support for Sender ID Framework included in firmware 3.0. Sender ID Framework, which is currently being considered by the Internet Engineering Task Force for Internet standardisation, aims to prevent e-mail domain spoofing and to provide greater protection against spam and phishing schemes through sender authentication. This technology enables the Barracuda Spam Firewall to verify that the message was sent from an authorised email server and deliver or block the message.

Barracuda Spam Firewall firmware 3.0 will deploy to new and current customers at no additional charge. For more information on firmware 3.0 deployment please email support@barracudanetworks.com.

About the Barracuda Spam Firewall Family

The Barracuda Spam Firewall is available in four models and supports from 1,000 to 25,000 active users with no per user licensing fees. The Barracuda Spam Firewall can be installed in front of the email server in typically less than five minutes and is automatically updated hourly to block new forms of spam and viruses. Its architecture leverages open source spam and virus solutions in conjunction with ten defence layers: denial of service and security protection, IP block list, rate control, virus check with archive decompression, proprietary virus check, user specified rules, spam fingerprint check, intention analysis, spam rule-based scoring, and Bayesian analysis. This architecture minimises the processing of each email, which yields the performance required to process millions of messages per day. Unlike software solutions, the Barracuda Spam Firewall reduces the load placed on the email server by off-loading both spam and virus filtering. Barracuda Networks also o
ffers the Energize Update subscription service to automatically update the Barracuda Spam Firewall with the latest spam rules and virus definitions.
