London, September 6, 2004 – In the latest stage of its growth, telecoms consultancy, BroadGroup has announced the launch of a practice dedicated to carrier wholesale markets and services.

Having conducted research programmes in the wholesale market, BroadGroup has formalised its approach, and launched a new practice headed by veteran wholesale specialist and consultant, Nicholas Topham. The team assembled has the depth of experience and understanding required to support the wholesale businesses of their clients internationally.

“It is critical for carriers to exploit the new types of opportunities emerging as wholesale markets change,” commented Topham. “We believe current changes occurring in the sector are transformational, and yet our research shows that the business structure and organisational resource in delivering wholesale services, does not often match the changing global market environment. The current change we detect in wholesale will fundamentally shift market-player positions, and we help carriers prepare for these events”.

The company recently produced the report Where Next in Wholesale ? which concluded that the rationale that the wholesale business is a marginal cost contributor to the retail cost base, could no longer be sustained.

BroadGroup believes that the creation of value in the voice and data wholesale businesses has similarities, but they are structurally different in terms of the roadmap, execution and carrier dynamics. Both revolve around consolidation and identifying higher margin activities, and are major concerns of forward looking carriers today.

The company conducts strategic and marketing audits, and develops new service typologies tailored to exploit individual carrier resources and competencies.
