London, United Kingdom, 15 September, 2004 - Akamai Technologies Limited, a subsidiary of Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the global leader of distributed computing solutions and services, today announced that Norman ASA (, one of the world’s leading companies within the field of data security, is using the Akamai EdgeSuite service to deliver antivirus software updates and product information to its customer base. As a result of using EdgeSuite, Norman ASA has reduced IT complexity, expanded its infrastructure capacity and reach, and improved its site performance.

Norwegian-based Norman ASA provides an array of security solutions, including antivirus, antispam and personal firewall software for banks, Internet service providers, PC vendors and other organisations, helping to protect their customers against online threats, such as virus and worm attacks and intrusions. The company relies on the Akamai EdgeSuite service to manage the process of delivering downloads of critical security updates and software to customers in a highly reliable and consistent fashion from the Internet’s edge. Akamai’s ability to provide capacity on demand enables Norman ASA to support widely varying end-user traffic without additional infrastructure build-out.

John Friberg, Corporate IT and Security Manager at Norman ASA, said: “We are delighted with the results and business benefits we have gained from using the EdgeSuite service. Our customers now get quick and reliable delivery of software patches, upgrades and information in a secure environment. We have also realised significant IT cost savings, as we no longer have to build out infrastructure to support the unpredictable needs of our growing customer base.”

Carlos Ramon, Vice President of Sales and General Manager, International at Akamai, said: “Akamai’s EdgeSuite service offers unrivalled content and applications delivery coupled with the benefits of on-demand scalability, bandwidth latency, and cost savings. Enterprises are increasingly using the Internet as a vehicle to deliver mission-critical content. Akamai’s services help its customers more safely, reliably, and profitably conduct business over the Internet.”

The Akamai EdgeSuite service enables the assembly and delivery of dynamic content by constructing Web pages from component pieces that can be targeted and delivered from locations optimised for each Web site visitor. Given today's challenged IT budgets, the EdgeSuite service allows businesses and government agencies to cost-effectively extend their critical Web infrastructure across the Akamai EdgePlatform, while retaining control of the business intelligence necessary to provide the optimal user experience.
