Moscow Broadband Services Provider Deploys Kasenna Media Servers & Management System For Video Over IP Networks

London, UK - September 15, 2004 – Kasenna, the leaders in broadband video network systems, today announced that COMCOR-TV, a Russian company that is in the process of rolling out broadband services (cable television, high-speed Internet access) to residential and business customers, is conducting a trial of Kasenna-powered video on demand (VOD) services in Moscow. The trial is now underway with full deployment on the affected networks scheduled for completion in the second half of 2004.
COMCOR-TV is a joint venture of Moscow Telecommunication Corporation and U.S.-based MoscowCableCom Corp. Leveraging its rights to provide its services using the Moscow Fiber Optic Network (MFON—the largest high-speed transportation network in Moscow) and licenses issued by the Russian Ministry of Communications and Information, COMCOR-TV is currently wiring Moscow to provide “last mile” access to broadband communications services.
“We are aimed at satisfying as much as possible the needs of subscribers and are constantly enlarging our set of services. We estimate that the “video-on-demand” service has very good business prospects in Russia. That’s why we decided to create the test zone, on the basis of which we will be able to realise the whole set of services we want to render to our subscribers in the near future, including “video-on-demand,” IP telephony, access to the Internet via STB and others. It will allow us to specify our project’s technical and economic operation factors as well as to gain experience essential in future. Cooperation with Kasenna and DPI enabled us to realise our plans during short time constraints,” said Alexey Leontiev, chief of the Interactive TV Group at COMCOR-TV. “DPI Computers and Kasenna are giving us the world’s most advanced video network infrastructure to support a broad range of current and future interactive services.”
Unlike many video servers on the market, Kasenna’s Media Servers and intelligent software enable network managers to precisely manage and control distribution of video content to edge servers. This management capability is essential in allowing COMCOR-TV engineers to optimise their network resources while providing the best possible viewing experience for their customers. In addition, Kasenna’s open architecture easily supports the addition of future services such as network PVR and interactive gaming.
“Customers like COMCOR-TV are coming to realise that there’s more to a video network than servers,” said Mark Gray, president and CEO of Kasenna. “Our Media Servers and video network management software are the only systems in the world that combine high performance, broad interoperability, and full service network management for efficient delivery of today’s and tomorrows broadband video services.”
