London, 21st September 2004 – BroadGroup, the telecoms consultancy, today announced the launch of a new practice focused on Broadband, together with leading statistical data and pricing analyst Quantum-Web.
The new services include a range of broadband statistics, based on the most comprehensive coverage of demographic, socio-economic, technological and market data and analysis.
In addition, new services have been launched including the Broadband Pricing Matrix, tracking tariffs of 134 service providers across 67 countries. The company will also provide Broadband Insight, a monthly service designed to provide depth and background to this fast paced market, current examples of which include:
• Although broadband globally has now extended to more than 118 million subscribers - an increase of 6.46 per cent over Q1 of 2004 – the top 10 countries in the world represent more than 78% of the total.
• Asia now has 41% of the world total broadband subscribers, and the highest penetration of DSL technologies.
• Among the top 20 broadband markets worldwide, Denmark is the newest entrant with slightly below 1 million subscribers. This result also highlights the scale of the digital divide, and challenges that lie ahead in deploying broadband globally. Indeed, the report notes that competition in the provision of broadband services within emerging markets will continue to intensify, leading to pricing pressure and more importance placed on performance.
• Slovakia has gained the pole position in the world ranking of fastest growing broadband market in Q2 2004 by adding nearly 100,000 new subscribers to its current base, representing 88 per cent growth to its broadband market.
“By expanding our consultancy services through this new relationship with Quantum-Web, we are able to support our clients with access to the type of robust data often missing in the current marketplace,” commented Philip Low, founder of BroadGroup. “Our partners and alliances will continue to deliver innovative propositions across wireless, broadband, pricing and wholesale markets worldwide.”
“We are delighted to work with BroadGroup in this exciting new venture at a time when broadband markets internationally are clearly growing so rapidly,” commented Dr Qmars Safikhani, managing director of Quantum-Web.
