* Hi-Lighter stores images at 12 times the resolution of today's CCTV systems - an astonishing 2,500 x 2,000 pixels

* Hi-Lighter allows zoom and pan post capture while retaining entire image area

* Hi-Lighter offers low cost (sub £1000) alternative to pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) cameras

* Hi-Lighter is designed for applications (intruder identification, crowd monitoring, vehicle number plate recording etc.) where prosecution-level quality images are required

Shepperton, England, September 28, 2004 - Verdant Technologies (www.verdant-tech.co.uk), a specialist supplier of digital closed circuit television (CCTV) products and associated embedded design and consultancy services, has introduced Hi-Lighter, an ultra high resolution, full colour digital image event recorder.

Hi-Lighter stores colour, photographic, prosecution-level quality images at 12 times the resolution of today’s broadcast quality CCTV systems – a massive 2,500 x 2,000 full colour pixels. This enables post capture pan and zoom without losing the detail of the main scene – a major benefit in applications where there is a requirement for positive identification of a person or object, such as intruder identification, crowd monitoring and vehicle number plate recording.

“Whilst today’s digital CCTV systems have done much to provide end users with consistent quality movement based recording, ease of distribution, remote access and digital file transfer, little has so far been done to improve the source image quality, which is still based on analogue video cameras,” says John Douglass, founder and chief executive officer of Verdant Technologies.

“Such systems are fine for general surveillance but lack the definition for identification that the user wants. Even pan tilt zoom cameras which can zoom in to the subject to get better definition are only as good as the operator driving them and are totally ineffective after the event. However, by using Megapixel technology in the Hi-Lighter system, we can capture the source image at ultra high resolution and then have the flexibility to zoom and pan post capture to achieve positive identification of the subject.”

The Hi-Lighter System works by taking a series of high resolution snap shots (in excess of 1000 per day or one every 2-3 seconds) of a given scene. It is supplied complete with camera, recorder and viewer software, rugged weatherproof housing, power supply and a 4-port USB hub for connection of up to four Hi-Lighter cameras. The system works with any Windows compatible PC and can be installed as a stand-alone system or alongside existing CCTV installations.

Hi-Lighter can be installed on laptop computers thereby creating a fully mobile system for use in intruder identification, crowd monitoring, vehicle number plate recording, raid monitoring for banks, or any application requiring fine detail images.

“Hi-Lighter delivers the image quality that CCTV users have been long been demanding and marks a break from traditional PAL/NTSC resolution to the new age of fully digital cameras,” says John Douglass. “We expect to see more ultra high resolution cameras being used in CCTV applications over the next few years and Verdant will continue to be at the forefront of developing systems and providing innovative software to support our own as well as third party products.”

Hi-Lighter will be available in limited quantities from October 2004. It is expected to retail at less than £1000. Verdant Technologies is currently looking for distributors and trade partners.
