London – October 26, 2004 – PortWise, a leading supplier of SSL VPN and Strong Authentication software, today announced the general availability of the 3.7 version of its mVPN and mID products, designed to enable organizations to extend the reach of their datacenter security policies to remote user laptops, PDAs and public web terminals outside the network perimeter.
Accessing critical applications from outside the firewall means there is unprecedented opportunity for devices such as PC’s, PDA and mobile phones to bring viruses, spy-ware, unpatched software, and unapproved applications into a corporate network. PortWise end-point security ensures that the corporate security policies are deployed regardless of whether a user accesses an application from a trusted corporate issued device or an untrusted device such as an airport or hotel web terminal.
“Customers are demanding the same levels of security inside and outside the firewall these days” says Jonathan Martin, Chief Marketing Officer at PortWise. “The unique end-point security features incorporated in our mVPN and mID 3.7 releases ensure that only properly configured and secured devices may access the network. We use a secure reference configuration inside the firewall, meaning there is no manual configuration or setup required. This hugely reduces the margin for administrator error, and minimizes the risk of a security breach.”

“Ensuring the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of local and remote endpoints means that every PC, PDA or mobile phone requesting access to a critical application must pass a reference based configuration check before and during access. This guarantees that existing security policies and IT investments can be leveraged beyond the firewall, and enables organizations to maintain IT and end-user productivity” continues Martin.

"Providing an effective and automated way to identify the security level of a user’s device is important for Scania as we extend the usage of PortWise application access solutions” says Bo Palmblad, Access Manager, Scania Infomate. “The PortWise End Point Security solution ensures that regardless of their location, Scania users can accesses our corporate applications and files safe from viruses and other malicious attacks.”

The 3.7 release of PortWise mVPN and mID also includes new features to allow authenticated users to mount their home and networks shares securely through the VPN tunnel, enabling secure access to critical documents outside of the firewall.

PortWise mVPN and mID 3.7 are available immediately, with pricing starting from $2,700.
