The data security company Norman ASA has signed an agreement with Norwegian County Governors to protect more than 2,000 computers from intrusion by spyware and adware.

The County Governors’ regional IT network (Fylkesmennenes Regionale Informasjonsnett) selected Norman Ad-Aware PRO to protect up to 3,000 users. The 18 County Governors and their employees will therefore be protected from unwanted software that installs itself on workstations via the Internet.

Spyware is a growing problem for computer users. An estimated 90 % of all computers are exposed to such unwanted programs. Spyware is the generic term for trojans, advertisement - and surveillance programs that monitor and collect information about a user’s surfing habits on the Internet.

“The County Governor’s office handles extremely sensitive personal information and other confidential material. It is therefore vital for us to prevent unauthorized access to our computers,” says Asbjørn Rasch at the Vest-Agder County Governor. He has been negotiating the agreement on behalf of all County Governors offices.

“We chose Norman because of the company’s renowned technology within this area, as well as the company’s accessibility in Norway with telephone support in Norwegian,” says Mr Rasch.

Norman recently entered into a partnership with Swedish software company Lavasoft. The Ad-Aware software developed by Lavasoft, is widely recognized as a world leader in the anti-spyware and -adware field. This product will be marketed and sold by Norman under the name Norman Ad-Aware. The agreement with the Norwegian Country Governor’s offices is the first major sale of Norman Ad-Aware to be concluded since Norman’s cooperation with Lavasoft began.

Norman is one of the world’s leading providers of virus protection tools. Through its SandBox technology, Norman leads the way with regard to proactive antivirus solutions. While focusing on its antivirus technology, the company has formed alliances which enable Norman to supply a complete range of data security services.
