PAV Data Systems and ACAL Networks have joined forces to offer a greater access to Free Space Optics (FSO) installation and awareness courses throughout the UK. The same comprehensive courses are being run in two locations: at PAV’s training centre in Merseyside and at the ACAL Networks Training Centre in Hampshire.

The training courses cover the specification, installation and maintenance of PAV’s FSO communications links. The course is ideal for resellers who offer installation services to telecoms, GSM operators, enterprises and public sector organisations. The courses have a particular focus on the configuration of links that support mixed traffic types, particularly installations that support data, voice and video over a single link. The courses also cover health and safety aspects related to the use of FSO equipment.

The new range of FSO training courses is based upon the existing training offered by PAV. Delegates enrolled on the course take an exam and those who are successful are awarded a CPI (Certified PAV Installer) Training Certificate. This means that not only are they then certified as being qualified and competent to install PAV’s FSO equipment, but the skills they learn on the course enable delegates to install, align and commission FSO systems faster and more effectively, resulting in more satisfied customers in a shorter time.

“Free Space Optical links can be one of the most cost-effective ways to provide high-bandwidth building to building connectivity,” said Chris Emerson, MD of PAV. “Correct installation can be a quick process, and it will ensure the link will offer high performance and reliability without the need for regular maintenance.”

ACAL Networks distribute PAV’s FSO systems throughout the UK and Europe. “We are pleased to be able to cater for the increasing demand for training on FSO installations,” said Paul Reeve, Director of Acal Networks. “By offering a certified installation service, our resellers can reassure customers of a rapid and professional installation that maximises reliability throughout the life of the link.”
