London, United Kingdom, 22 November, 2004 - Akamai Technologies Limited, a subsidiary of Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the global leader of distributed computing solutions and services, today announced that Premium TV, the end-to-end digital media business supplying broadband, 3G, commercial and subscription products and services to the global sports and media industries, (, is utilising Akamai’s industry-leading EdgePlatformSM and EdgeSuite content delivery service for the reliable and high-performance delivery of audio and broadband video football commentary, interviews, and highlights across Premium TV’s network of official football club websites.

Premium TV partners with 83 UK football clubs across all top flight English and Scottish leagues and has the largest share of the UK online sports audience with a loyal fan base of more than 3.1 million monthly unique users and 1.8 million registered users, who generate more than 45 million page impressions every month.

“Following the highly successful roll-out of Premium TV’s ‘World’ interactive digital channel, which allows fans to subscribe to receive all the latest video, audio and text information about their favourite football clubs, we realized we needed to significantly build out the size and scale of our infrastructure to provide a flawless online experience for users,” commented Paul Court, Head of Infrastructure, Premium TV.

To avoid costly infrastructure build out and maintenance, Premium TV deployed the Akamai EdgeSuite service due to its robust, globally distributed computing model. EdgeSuite was utilised for this year’s pre-season fixtures announcements – an annual event that drives vast volumes of traffic to the Premium TV site. With Akamai, fans visiting and the 83 official football club sites within its network now experience much faster connections and better overall site performance as content is being distributed closer to each individual user via Akamai’s worldwide platform. Akamai’s services proved invaluable during Premium TV’s pre-season fixtures announcements, helping Premium TV support 38 million hits during a twenty-four hour period.

Court added, “We wouldn’t be able to deliver the high level of service that we do without the help of Akamai, who has become a critical technology provider to Premium TV. As our online community of fans expands beyond Europe, Akamai’s global reach is vital to our ability to serve fans in other territories, such as China.”

Carlos Ramon, Vice President of Sales and General Manager, International at Akamai, said: “Akamai is rapidly growing its foothold in Europe, and with that in mind, we are delighted to be working with such a well recognised and fast-paced brand as Premium TV. Akamai's EdgePlatform and EdgeSuite service ensure optimum quality and an uninterrupted user experience -- benefits that are paramount to any company utilising the Web to increase their client base and expand their revenue-producing opportunities.”
