m-Network cuts development time from “months to weeks”

Tuesday 7th December, 2004: Intuwave, the mobile software specialist, today announced a strategic partnership with BVRP Software, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of mobility software. Under the terms of the partnership, BVRP will use m-Network®, Intuwave’s Smartphone Integration Engine, to speed time to market for a Symbian version of its market-leading phone management software, Mobile PhoneTools®. Symbian is the most popular Smartphone platform in the world, running over two-thirds of the world’s Smartphones.

Mobile PhoneTools, the world’s best-selling, most advanced mobile phone management software, allows mobile users to manage their handheld’s data and files on a desktop or laptop. With Mobile PhoneTools, users can: save photos and videos to their PC hard drive; customise phones with wallpapers, screensavers and ring tones; synchronise contacts and calendars with their PC; and connect to the Internet using the mobile phone as a modem. m-Network enables BVRP to rapidly extend Mobile PhoneTools to the Smartphone market by taking advantage of Intuwave’s expertise in the intricacies of the Symbian platform. The new version, allowing handset manufacturers and operators to offer their customers a single connectivity suite for use with all popular mobile device operating systems (including Symbian), is targeted to be available in Q1, 2005.

David Wright, Executive Vice President and Director of BVRP's OEM Division, said, “The Smartphone market is growing massively and IDC expects it to reach 18 million units this year so, clearly, it’s one that we needed to be in. As always, we faced a buy/build choice but - as time to market was an important factor for us - we decided to partner. We looked at a number of different vendors, but Intuwave’s proven track record in Symbian Smartphones really impressed us. The key fact is that, with m-Network, we will have a Smartphone product shipping in weeks, not months or years, so that makes good business sense for us.”

m-Network 3.0 captures Intuwave’s 5 years of experience developing Smartphone software. It makes it easy for Independent Software Vendors to embrace the fast-growing mobile world by integrating Smartphones with new or existing applications running on PCs and servers. It is the only platform designed exclusively for Smartphones and the way people use them in the mobile environment.

Rob Davis, Product Manager, Intuwave, said, “Often, the PC software shipped with Smartphones is not ‘best of breed’ and people are sometimes unaware that other such tools can be bought separately. As a significant amount of information is stored on Smartphones - contacts, pictures, MP3 files, etc. - solutions like Mobile PhoneTools are particularly important not only for back-up purposes or when users upgrade from one phone to another but also for day-to-day synchronisation and connecting to the Internet. We are therefore delighted that we have been selected by BVRP to help them make Smartphones into more useful tools for professional users and consumers.”
