Attenda provides Internet infrastructure management for Glasgow City Council

London, 6th January 2005 - Attenda, Europe's leading specialist in operating enterprise and Internet applications, announced today that it is managing the internet infrastructure for Glasgow City Council, the biggest local authority in Scotland.

The Council is one of Scotland's largest organisations with approximately 600,000 residents and 35,000 employees and a gross annual budget of over £2.4 billion. In May 2004 the Council relaunched its web site so that it could deliver more information and services electronically in line with e-government targets set by Westminster.

The Council developed the web site applications in-house and chose Attenda to design and manage a new platform which would provide improved availability and security.

The first phase of the new platform went live at the end of August. Together, Glasgow City Council (GCC) and Attenda project managed the transfer of applications from a temporary platform, integrating them into the new platform and refining this to provide comprehensive resilience.

The solution uses Microsoft Content Management Server allowing up to 200 people within the council to update the web site, a potentially complex process. Microsoft Content Management Server is used to manage the validation and approval of content.

Attenda's solution for GCC incorporates a managed attack detection service which couples advanced intrusion detection technology with real-time security monitoring to correlate and process security event information. Attenda support staff are alerted when real threats are detected and respond on the Council's behalf 24x7.

David Wood, Head of Information and Communications Technology at GCC, commented "The new platform enables Glasgow City Council to provide a better service to our customers. We have greatly improved availability of the web site through the introduction of this managed service. Attenda has specialist expertise in leading edge Microsoft technology and total commitment to security as shown by the company's BS7799 accreditation. We felt reassured by the calibre of clients which Attenda has attracted and retained, and the fact that 100% of clients have said they would recommend Attenda."

GCC and Attenda have entered into a two year contract with an option for a third year. "Together we have created a successful partnership with both parties working together seamlessly to achieve high security and availability" said David Godwin of Attenda . "We will be fully supporting the Council as it expands its online services in the coming months."
