Next-generation data migration tool to save BT £millions
Evolved Networks (www.evolvednetworks.com), the supplier of advanced
software tools that enable telecoms operators to automate the management of
access networks, today announced that BT has signed a £multi-million
contract for its axcessfirst Data Migration™ software.

Evolved Networks’ axcessfirst Data Migration will be used within the overall
process in one of the largest data-migration projects ever undertaken by any
telecoms operator, to migrate BT’s line plant records for its 6,000
exchanges and 28 million customers from their current paper format into rich
vector data.

The cost and complexity of data migration programmes is a major hurdle for
many telecoms operators. The automation delivered by Evolved Networks’
axcessfirst Data Migration helps solve this problem by generating
high-quality data in hours rather than hundreds of man-days.

Evolved Networks’ axcessfirst Data Migration enables BT to generate detailed
cable and bearer data automatically in a far quicker timeframe than has ever
been possible, providing significant cost savings and reducing the effort
required by many hundreds of man-years.

Colin Noakes, programme manager for the BT project said: "Evolved Networks’
axcessfirst Data Migration has allowed BT to re-engineer parts of the data
transformation process delivering substantial savings in time, cost and
effort, while increasing data completeness. BT recognises that Evolved
Networks’ software is world leading and should change the way communications
service providers approach data migration in the future."

Chris Sharpe, chief operations officer at Evolved Networks, said: "Data
migration is one of the most difficult and expensive problems facing
telecoms operators today. We are delighted that BT has chosen Evolved
Networks’ axcessfirst Data Migration. It is a great endorsement of how our
software is changing the rules of the data-migration industry."

The Evolved Networks’ axcessfirst product suite comprises:

· axcessfirst Planning & Design™ is a highly-automated method of creating
new and modified designs for the access network. axcessfirst Planning &
Design uses a set of customer defined business and engineering rules to
simplify the design process, automatically allocate equipment and calculate
installation costs.

· axcessfirst Circuit Assign™ is a next-generation provisioning tool which
automates the tasks related to defining and allocating the physical access
network assets needed to deliver successfully the service ordered by each
customer.

· axcessfirst Data Migration enables telecoms operators to generate duct,
cable and bearer data automatically. In addition axcessfirst Data Migration
greatly simplifies the major problem of converting network diagrams into
computer readable vector data by automating the validation and cable
generation processes.
