Solution expected to save at least £1.6m a year in employee productivity
2nd February 2005, Newbury, UK: Mediasurface has today announced that it has been selected by the Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) to provide a consolidated worldwide Intranet and Extranet for as many as 30,000 users in a contract worth up to £600k.
Operating in nearly 100 countries worldwide, the IHG, which operates seven brands including Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza, has purchased worldwide Intranet and Extranet licences for Mediasurface 5.1, and the innovative Morello in a bid to provide a single framework to allow both its employees and franchisees to collaborate amongst themselves.
Franchising is a major part of the IHG business, operating over 2,500 franchised hotels in the US alone and nearly 3,000 worldwide. All franchisees are expected to conform to brand standards, and so have an increased need for this type of toolkit. A fully functioning Extranet – IHG Online, is already in place for hotel staff at franchised properties, which has over 20,000 users worldwide. In addition, there are around 25 disparate Intranets dotted around the world. The most developed being in Asia Pacific, which has great adoption, but updating and editing information can prove time consuming and difficult.
Many regions have developed their own systems but there is no global framework in place. IHG wanted a product that allowed it to pull together all the information from existing systems onto one platform, and provide an easy to use toolkit for employees to expand and develop as required.

Morello is unique in that regard, its Microsoft desktop look and feel make it very intuitive. No other product came anywhere close to it.”

Phase one of the project is planned to go-live in EMEA by the end of March. Phase two will roll out to Asia Pac where they are very excited about the project and the benefits Morello will bring to their already popular Intranet.
