-OLE and ActiveX components bring applications to the windows desktop

Cambridge, England. January 4th, 1999. Users of legacy, character-based applications will be able to introduce advanced add-on features with the availability of a free toolkit from Soft Option Technologies Ltd. The new toolkit, Integration Gallery 1.0 will allow for simple addition of facilities to any application by linking to email, spreadsheets and word processors, for example.

The toolkit is an add-on to Version 1.5 and higher of the company's flagship product, Soft Option Integration Tool. The core product allows close integration of legacy applications into the Windows environment. Networked PCs link to mini and mainframe systems, providing a familiar interface to legacy systems for users of Windows '95, '98 and NT.

Standard add-ons provided by Integration Gallery 1.0 include:

Internet: Automatic generation of web pages from legacy applications, including generation of a web-based lookup database, using Active Server Pages (ASP).

Email: A single mouse click generates an email within Microsoft Outlook/ Exchange, including selected information from the legacy application.

Word: Automatic generation of any format of document within Microsoft Word, merging relevant information from the original application.

Excel: Information from the application is automatically transferred to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for numerical and/or graphical analysis.

General data extraction/integration. Any standard interchange of information between a true Windows program and the legacy application is possible via the Integration Gallery. This may include add-on technologies such as postcoding systems, integration with other, Windows-based finance applications and third party analysis systems.

Soft Option Technologies Ltd is established as a market leader in the field of migration and integration technology. It works with VARs and IT users, helping them integrate their legacy applications software with the latest technologies across a wide range of hardware platforms and operating environments. The aim is to retain the full functionality of the original systems without modifying the underlying source code, thereby achieving all the benefits of modern integration and user interface technologies without any compromise on performance.

Much of Soft Option Technologies' work is based on its unique legacy migration software, Soft Option for Windows, a development tool providing a Windows interface for legacy systems plus many data transfer functions. Furthermore, as the interface is selectable at runtime, the user can choose between the original application and a Windows option. Soft Option for Windows also allows existing software to be integrated into a Windows '95, '98 and NT environment from single operating systems or mixed environments including DOS, UNIX, AS400 and VMS.

Soft Option Technologies Ltd is fully committed to developing long-term partnerships with its customers. This is borne out by the company's approach to product introduction and training. In addition to a phased approach to the adoption of the Soft Option Integration Tool, the company provides its corporate customers with a total support programme to suit their needs for software, training, licensing, relevant documentation and on- and off-site support.
